Russia’s air forces dropped 21 bombs on its own territory over the past couple of months in another huge humiliation during the Ukraine war, according to a report from independent media.

The report claims that Russia dropped an X-59 missile in Belogorod, a city close to the Russian border.

Astra cited a source that said: “The military had to destroy it on the spot. There were no victims.”

The report adds that at least 21 missiles fell on Russian land or Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine in March and April.

Astra’s report added: “There are no exact answers as to why this keeps happening.”

A Russian bomber dropped explosives on a railway station in Rubizhne, an occupied part of the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine.

Artem Lysohor, head of Ukraine’s military administration in the Luhansk region, said in a statement: “The number of victims is not reported, the survivors were evacuated and kept together.”

In April 2023, a Russian bomb hit the centre of Belgorod leaving behind a huge crater.

The Russian Defence Ministry said: “During the flight of the Su-34 aircraft of the Aerospace Forces over the city of Belgorod, an unusual fall of aviation ammunition occurred.”

Vladimir Putin has repeatedly used Russia’s supremacy in the air to drop devastating strikes on Ukrainian cities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the West on a number of occasions to provide aerial support to thwart Moscow’s aircraft.

But the West has refused to do so as they fear this could cause a direct conflict with Russia, resulting in World War 3.

Ukraine has been boosted, however, by the passing of the Ukraine aid bill in Washington.

The House of Representatives approved the bill last weekend, paving the way for $60billion (£49billion) of aid for Kyiv.

Zelensky said he was “grateful” for the decision, adding: “Democracy and freedom will always have global significance and will never fail as long as America helps to protect it.

“The vital US aid bill passed today by the House will keep the war from expanding, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both of our nations to become stronger.”

US President Joe Biden told lawmakers: “I urge the Senate to quickly send this package to my desk so that I can sign it into law and we can quickly send weapons and equipment to Ukraine to meet their urgent battlefield needs.”
