A new report has revealed Russia sustained nearly a staggering 1,000 artillery losses in March, marking the biggest montly loss since the war began.
Defense of Ukraine claimed Vladimir Putin’s army sustained 976 artillery losses last month, nearly 100 more than February and 29 more than the second highest month – September 2023.
They said on social media platform X: “It’s the biggest monthly number since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Great job by the Ukrainian warriors. Ukraine will win!”
Since December 2023, the number of losses to Russia’s artillery systems have been steadily increasing, according to Ukraine’s data, before peaking last month.
The figures claim that Russia has lost a total of 11,142 artillery systems since the war broke out in February 2022, including 30 between Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Russia hit back, publishing its own figures which claim Ukraine has lost 8,629 field artillery guns and mortars since the war began in February 2022.
Ukrainian troops are said to be working with around a fifth of the ammunition Russia has. Despite this, they have recently dealt Putin’s armoured vehicles significant blows.
New thermal imaging drone footage shows Ukraine raining down a cluster munition attack on Russian tanks, resulting in multiple explosions.
It’s not clear how many of the armoured vehicles were destroyed, but the video captures two significant explosions, presumed to be two of them on fire following the strike.

Ukrainian military spokesperson Dmytro Lykhoviy said: “In this hottest sector of the direct Russian assault, we are managing to stabilise the situation and the enemy’s advance has been halted.
“But our defence is holding. The enemy is expending tremendous efforts but making no headway at all. It’s the biggest amount of armour that was used in one charge since the beginning of the war.”
NATO allies are still scrambling to provide Ukraine with military aid, despite continued struggles. Most recently, the EU missed the March 2024 deadline it gave itself to provide Ukraine with one million rounds of ammunition.
