The TCU women’s basketball team has been forced to cancel games against two ranked opponents this week due to a player shortage. The Big 12 announced the news on Wednesday.
TCU was scheduled to host No. 7 Kansas State on Wednesday night and visit No. 24 Iowa State on Saturday.
With the shortage of players, TCU will be holding open tryouts on Thursday and Friday.
“The cancellations are a result of injuries within the TCU program and ensure the health and safety of the program’s student-athletes. Both contests will count as a forfeit for TCU in accordance with Big 12 rules,” the athletic department announced in a statement.
TCU’s Women’s Basketball games vs K-State and Iowa State have been cancelled due to injuries within the program and in the interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes.

“The games will not be made up. The forfeits will only impact the Horned Frogs’ Big 12 win-loss record.”
The Horned Frogs currently sit at 14-4, 1-4 Big 12 on the season.
On Tuesday, TCU announced that point guard Jaden Owens suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in her right knee during this past weekend’s game against Houston. Owens will miss the remainder of the season.
TCU is currently scheduled to return to action on January 23 when they host UCF.
