Five huge new airports will make Europe even better connected than ever – and are expected to cater for a combined 200 million passengers.
Poland, Portugal, Greece, Norway and Georgia each have a mega-project planned, with the new airports costing a combined total of £16billion.
These projects come after the new £400 million Aeroporto di Salerno Costa d’Amalfi opened on the Amalfi Coast in Italy last month.
And Istanbul Airport opened in 2018. It has since revealed expansion plans to welcome 120 million passengers by 2029 and cement its position as one of the largest airports in the world.

Warsaw Solidarity Airport, Poland
One of Europe’s largest new airports will be Poland’s £7 billion Warsaw Solidarity Airport, expected to open in 2028.
It will replace Warsaw Chopin Airport which is nearing capacity.
The plan is to welcome as many as 65million passengers by 2060.
The huge airport hopes to rival both London Heathrow and Dubai as a transport hub for long-haul flights.

Luis de Camoes Airport, Portugal
Lisbon has revealed plans for its new Luis de Camoes Airport, which was first discussed back in 2008.
The £7 billion airport, which is aiming to open in 2034, will replace the current Lisbon Airport which has already reached capacity.
With two runways, the new airport named after a poet is hoping to welcome as many as 100 million passengers by 2050.

Kastelli International Airport, Greece
A huge new £422 million airport will become one of the largest in the country under new plans for Greece’s biggest island.
Kastelli International Airport is set to open on Crete in 2027, replacing the current Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport which opened back in 1937.
The new airport will initially be able to welcome up to 10 million passengers with a maximum capacity of 18 million. There will also be a five-storey passenger hub and shopping area.
New Bodø Airport, Norway
Norway is replacing Bodø Airport in the north of the country with the new £546 million New Bodø Airport.
Along with a 25,000sqm terminal, a huge runway right by the water will be built.
Bodø is a gateway to parts of the country that are popular for seeing the Northern Lights, as well as close to the beautiful Lofoten Islands.
Tbilisi International Airport, Georgia
A new £993million airport in Georgia is set to replace the current international airport in Tbilisi.
It is hoped the airport will open by 2028, opening up one of Europe’s most underrated cities to more tourists.
Up to 19million passengers would be able to travel through the new airport, compared to the 4.5million at the current airport.
