Moment Israel obliterates Hezbollah drone commander as Lebanon braces for invasion | World | News by StuffsEarth

Dramatic footage captures the moment Israeli forces killed Hezbollah drone commander Muhammed Hussein Srour with a precision airstrike in Lebanon, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claim.

The IDF shared a clip on Telegram purporting to show the moment Srour – the leader of Hezbollah’s Aerial Command – was targeted in a building in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Srour’s deputy, Abbas Ibrahim Sharaf Ad-Din, and Hussein Hany who was alleged to be a “senior terrorist” also died in the blast, MailOnline reports.

The IDF claimed in a statement that Srour had “advanced and directed numerous aerial terror attacks, including drone attacks, cruise missiles, and UAVs aimed at the people of Israel.

“In recent years, Srour led the manufacturing project of UAVs in southern Lebanon and established UAV manufacturing and intelligence gathering sites in Lebanon, located adjacent to civilian infrastructure in Beirut, as well as areas in southern Lebanon,” Israel’s national military alleged.

Israel continued strikes in Lebanon today, amid fears of all-out war breaking out in the Middle East. More than 700 people have been killed in Lebanon since Monday, according to the country’s health ministry.

An Israeli ground invasion appears imminent after the IDF called up two more reserve brigades – amounting to several thousand troops, it was reported on Thursday.

The deployment to northern Israel, which borders southern Lebanon, came just hours after a senior Israeli commander told his troops “We need to be very ready to go into action and to invade”.

The IDF said the call-up was intended for future “operational missions” in the north.

A military spokesperson said: “Their recruitment will allow the continuation of the war effort against the Hezbollah terror organisation, the protection of the citizens of the State of Israel, and the creation of the conditions for the safe return of the residents of the north to their homes.”

The UK, the US, France and other allies have called for a 21-day cease-fire and urged Netanyahu to step back from the brink of a huge escalation. Lebanon’s foreign minister said the country welcomed the cease-fire efforts and decried Israel’s “systematic destruction of Lebanese border villages”.

But Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a crushing blow to hopes of an agreement to prevent the invasion, as he vowed that strikes would continue.

Arriving in the US to address the United Nations, Mr Netanyahu said his forces would continue hitting Hezbollah with “full force and we will not stop until we achieve all our goals, first and foremost returning the residents of the north safely to their homes.”

Hezbollah, a political party and militant group with a significant presence in parliament and the Lebanese government says it’s continuing to fire missiles into Israel.

The group, which is designated as a terror organisation by nations including the UK and the US, is backed by Iran and says it stands in solidarity with Hamas as Israel’s invasion of Gaza continues.

International governments are urging their citizens to flee Lebanon immediately, and the UK is among those asking airlines to provide additional flights out of Beirut, BBC News reports.

More than 30,000 people have fled Lebanon for Syria in the past three days, according to the UN.
