ET Market Watch: Sensex ends flat after choppy Budget Day trade, Nifty below 23,500

Hi all, you’re listening to ET Market Watch – your daily podcast on ET Markets. I am Neha Vashishth, let’s hear the top market highlights:

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty gyrated between gains and losses in a special session for the Union Budget on Saturday, as markets paused after a four-session rally. However, gains in consumption-linked sectors helped limit the losses. Sectors like FMCG rose 3.1%, while the auto sector gained 2.1%, driven by the reduction in personal income tax rates aimed at boosting consumption in Asia’s third-largest economy. 16 of 30 Sensex stocks were in green today.
Top Gainers: Zomato, ITC Hotels, Maruti, ITC, Titan, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma.
Top Losers: Power Grid, L&T, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech, Infosys, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, HCL Tech.

Market Veteran Raamdeo Agrawal called the budget “brilliant,” citing its focus on capital markets and 7-8% economic growth, aligning with India’s 2047 development vision.
