Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.17% By Stuffsearth.com

Stuffsearth.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the rose 0.17%.

The best performers of the session on the were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:), which rose 5.64% or 0.19 points to trade at 3.56 at the close. Meanwhile, Transcontinental Inc (TSX:) added 4.66% or 0.80 points to end at 17.97 and Aritzia Inc (TSX:) was up 3.76% or 1.84 points to 50.83 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were SSR Mining Inc (TSX:), which fell 4.71% or 0.38 points to trade at 7.68 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:) declined 4.69% or 0.40 points to end at 8.12 and Magna International Inc (TSX:) was down 3.93% or 2.27 points to 55.48.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 573 to 355 and 90 ended unchanged.

Shares in Transcontinental Inc (TSX:) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.66% or 0.80 to 17.97.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.21% to 11.08.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.51% or 13.70 to $2,654.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.22% or 0.15 to hit $68.33 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.35 to trade at $71.89 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.66.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 100.50.
