Recently, Kriti Sanon, who played the role of Sita in the movie, revealed that she felt ‘deep sadness’ after Adipurush faced criticism from the audience.

Adipurush director Om Raut has claimed that the Prabhas starrer was not a flop at the box office despite criticism. In a recent interview, Raut called Prabhas ‘flop-proof’ and added, “Ups and downs cannot affect them because the audiences’ love for them is beyond comprehension.”

The director claimed that even though Adipurush faced backlash, it earned over Rs 400 crore at the box office. However, he also admitted that the film could earn more, which it did not, due to severe backlash.

“Our first day was ₹70 crore, and that’s just in India. Our total box office was over ₹400 crore. So, the numbers were very large… With Adipurush, there was a loss of perception, not a loss of revenue. If the perception was positive, if the perception was under control, we would’ve seen an exorbitant number, which we did not see. That was disappointing,” the director said on Amol Parchure’s YouTube channel.

Raut further stated that criticism does not matter because the box office numbers show how a film performed. He even claimed that people messaged him, praising his film.

Adipurush was released on June 16, 2023. The film is based on the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana. However, following its release, the film faced immense backlash from the audience for allegedly distorting the epic. People expressed disappointment with the film’s dialogues and portrayal of Ravana and Lord Hanuman. Even though the makers changed the infamous ‘kapda tere baap ka’ dialogue, it made no impact. A plea in the Supreme Court was also filed seeking revocation of CBFC certification of the Om Raut directorial. However, it was rejected by the top court.

Recently, Kriti Sanon, who played the role of Sita in the movie, revealed that she felt ‘deep sadness’ after Adipurush faced criticism from the audience. “You feel a deep sadness and might even find yourself in tears, wondering what went wrong,” Kriti said as quoted by Indian Express and then added, “The goal is never to hurt anyone’s feelings; the intention behind every project is always positive. However, we must face the reality that sometimes things just don’t click, and it’s crucial to learn from these experiences.”
