BHEL receive six electric locomotive orders from NTPC
On Monday, the state-owned BHEL said that it had received an order from NTPC for six electric locomotives, which would be used for the first time in the country for industrial purposes.
The locomotives will be built at the company's Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, facility.
While the traction motors for the locomotives will be provided by the Bhopal plant, the Bengaluru unit will develop and supply IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) based propulsion equipment, according to a statement from BHEL.
NTPC has placed an order for the delivery of six 6,000 HP electric locomotives for material handling operations at the Lara Thermal Power Project site in Chhattisgarh, it stated without providing any additional details.
As the globe looks for innovative methods to reduce carbon emissions in transportation, BHEL's efforts to deliver eco-friendly electric locomotives to the industry will give a substantially cleaner and alternative choice to diesel-electric locomotives, according to the business.
BHEL has provided about 450 electric locomotives of different ratings to the Indian Railways, all of which are now operational.
